5.0 out of 5 stars Effective with minimal synthetic chemicals - but NOT "chemical- free", August 8, 2005

This is one of the better, high-SPF formulas around for chemically-sensitive and health-conscious users. But, it is not exactly "pristine" in its ingredient list as the base lotion contains many synthetic chemicals. Additionally, not all the Blue Lizard formulas are the same as far as "active" sunscreen agents. Out of all the Blue Lizard sunscreens, the "Sensitive formula" and "Baby Lotion" have the least added UV-absorbing, synthetically-made chemicals. Some of these typical sunscreen chemicals (methoxycinnamate, benzophenone, homosalate, octinate) are suspected for potential adverse health affects. Certainly, they are not "organic," "natural" or "pure" - they are synthetic chemical derived in a lab and have a high photoactivity that is not desirable for health reasons. The other Blue Lizard formulas use these as "active ingredients" for suncreening which rely on absorbing UV light to achieve the SPF rating.

In contrast, this Blue Lizard "Sensitive" formula achieves... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheaper at Walgreens, March 19, 2011
This review is from: Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen, Sensitive SPF 30+, 5-Ounce (Misc.)
Blue Lizard (Sensitive) is all I use anymore; it's the best sunblock product on the market at a reasonable price. Was recommended to me by my dermatologist who is a specialist in skin cancer and as a skin cancer survivor... I listen closely to everything he tells me. Your suncreen/block MUST have titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, both, to be worthwhile! The only reason I'm writing this review is that the price here at Amazon of $27 is outrageous.... you can get it all day long online at Walgreens for $15, same 5oz size...and, if you watch closely at Walgreens online, they'll have it on sale soon..later this month (Mar) or next (Apr) for $10/bottle - that's when I stock up on it for the season.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for allergic people, April 21, 2011
This review is from: Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen, Sensitive SPF 30+, 5-Ounce (Misc.)
My son, who is 6, is allergic to most sunscreen. His reaction is that if I put regular sunscreen (even PABA free) on him, and he is exposed to sunlight, the exposed skin breaks out into a rash with tiny pinpoint bumps and his face swells, gets red and hot, like a severe sunburn. Eventually it will dry out and peel. It takes days of Benadryl and cortisone topical to get him comfortable again. It's awful. And he's a fair skinned redhead, so not having sunscreen is not an option for us.

This sunscreen, Blue Lizard Sensitive, worked great for him. No reaction at all. No sunburn either. What more can you ask for?

I used it on myself as well. It goes on almost, but not quite clear. There is still a white color there, though it's thin. It dries to a non-greasy finish. So, you don't feel all gooped up all day. It seems to stay on for quite a while. I didn't shower until the next morning, and it still felt like it was on my skin when I got it wet, I had to wash it off... Read more
